How To Get Your Kids To Love Pomegranate
Make healthy eating choices that are fun for the whole family—play with pomegranates today! Pomegranates are some of the most beneficial superfoods out there. A pomegranate is a peculiar looking fruit protected by a large, inedible outer hull. Inside of the tough hull are stored thousands of seed pods called arils. Pomegranate seeds are juicy and sweet and contain a tiny crunchy seed. In just one cup of pomegranate arils, you'll find a hefty 7 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein. Pomegranates boast Vitamin C, Vitamin K, folate and potassium. With these benefits and more, you might find yourself looking for ways to serve pomegranate to the whole family. How do you get your kids to fall in love with pomegranate? We’ve come up with a few ideas. Playing With Pomegranates One sure fire way to get your kids excited about eating any healthy food is to allow them to play. Playing with food is loads of fun regardless of your age! If you have children in primary or middle school, let them collect the seeds from the pomegranate. Start by dressing the kids in stain resistant clothes, bibs or aprons. Next, fill a sink or basin with water. Submerge one quarter of a pomegranate under the water and show your kids how to pull the white pith out from the pomegranate hull. Gently separate the small pomegranate seeds from the white pith and watch them float to the bottom. Kids can fish for the tasty pomegranate seeds and eat them right away, or dry them by the handful on paper towels to enjoy later. If you have children in middle or high school, try experimenting in the kitchen together. Your teens may not care how about the powerful plant compounds that provide super antioxidant protection, but they will appreciate the chance to spend time with you and play with food. Pomegranate seeds can be added to salads, sprinkled on foccacia, or stirred into oatmeal. Try some of our favorite, easy pomegranate recipes:
